The topic of open source is important at UniNet, as is evident by their organization and hosting of conferences as UMeet, Infosec, etc. for the open source community. Hence, JOSU: Journal Open Source at UniNet. Here there would be peer-reviewed pieces, new ideas in open source, editorials, and descriptions of how open source software and topics have been applied to a variety of scenarios. Only when software, ideas, and material is shared does it come to life. And projects which have merit or promise can be investigated, adopted, and adapted by others, just as with scientific ideas and findings. Because scientific journals offer a medium for these ideas and findings, it is only natural that there be a journal for the open source community.

JOSU: Journal OPen Source at UniNet, lanzado!

El tema Open Source (Codigo Abierto) es importante en UniNet, como es evidente por la organización y realización de congresos y conferencias como UMeet, Infosec, etc. dedicadas a esta comunidad Open Source. Por todo ello aparece, JOSU: Journal Open Source at UniNet. Contendrá articulos peer review sobre nuevas ideas en Open Source, editoriales, y descripciones de aplicaciones y desarrollo de software Open Source en una amplia variedad de situaciones. Solamente cuando se comparte el software, las ideas y el material llegan a tener vida. Y los proyectos que tienen mérito o capacidad pueden ser investigados, adoptados, y adaptados por otros, como ocurre con las ideas y los resultados científicos. Lo mismo que la prensa científica ofrece un medio para esas ideas y resultados, resulta natural una revista para la comunidad del Open Source (Codigo Abierto).

Like most open source projects, the people behind josu are from all over the world, Spain, France, the Americas, and Southeast Asia, and like open source software projects, this is currently a volunteer effort. We have a first issue ready for release: http://josu.UniNet.edu, and is mirroring it from Japan. JOSU has an open call for papers for issue 2 and beyond, meaning we want you to write for us. New ideas and studies are particularly welcome, but also case studies of open source deployments and methodologies are especially welcome. What's exciting is that open source goes beyond software to documentation, teaching materials, and information sharing.

The editorial board and the scientific committee, includes peoples from 10 countries, a really impressive list of interesting, bright and friendly people. The set of instructions for authors are here, which describes what types of material we are looking for (editorials, original studies, correspondance, and reviews) along with an organizational layout of the paper for some of these types. The author guidelines are also available in Spanish: and is preparing in others languages. The editors will work with the author to ensure correctness, timeliness, completeness, and editorial coverage.

What is the official languages for JOSU publications? Presently we have handled both English and Spanish articles, but with the international nature of the editorial board, we hope accomodate several more languages, including French, Japanese, and even Dutch. If needed we would attempt to find a reviewer or translator for submissions which we would like to see be presented to a wider audience. Como la mayoría de los proyectos Open Source, la gente que hace JOSU es de todo el mundo, España, Francia, las Américas, y Asia suroriental, y como los proyectos de Software Libre, se trata actualmente un esfuerzo voluntario. Tenemos ya el primer numero listo : http://josu.UniNet.edu, con su mirror en Japón. El plazo para recibir articulos para el numero 2 de JOSU está abierto, y nos gustaria recibir su aportación. Son particularmente bien recibidas las nuevas ideas y desarrollos originales, pero también los estudios de despliegues y metodología de aplicación en Open Source. Es importante ir mas alla de la documentación del software, los materiales didácticos, y compartir la información.

El comité editorial y el comité científico, incluyen gente de 10 países, una lista realmente impresionante de gente interesante, brillante y amistosa. Las instrucciones para los autores están aquí (en inglés), donde se especifica el tipo de material que estamos buscando (editoriales, estudios originales, correspondencia, y revisiones) junto con normas de organización de cada tipo de artículos. Estas normas están también disponibles en español y se están preparando en otras lenguas. Los redactores trabajarán con el autor para asegurar la corrección, la puntualidad, la terminación, y la cobertura editorial.

¿Cuál es el idioma oficiales de JOSU? Actualmente hemos preprarado artículos en inglés y español, pero dada la naturaleza internacional del comité editorial esperamos acomodar varios idiomas más, incluyendo francés, japonés, e incluso holandés. Si es necesario procuraremos encontrar los revisores o traductores necesarios, ya que quisiéramos llegar a la máxima audiencia.
